Edna was one of the first orphans here and one of the brightest. She was almost killed by her mother when she was young as a murder/suicide because they were starving to death. Her brother was thrown into a latrine pit and died, but the orphanage rescued Edna just before she was thrown in. Through the guidance of the orphanage staff, she grew up to get the highest grades in the history of her school, but couldn't pay the fee for her high school diploma. So she has been helping around the orphanage. Now she has a second chance! We helped her pay the fee for her high school diploma and she immediately got an offer to Moi University School of Engineering! She wants to be a chemical engineer. She will earn a job and give back to the orphanage for the rest of her life. The trickle down effect will be amazing! $1200 covers a full year. Will you please help her?

Newton is attending medical school, performing very well, and is viewed as a leader among the medical students. This is his final year, and he will be graduating with medical degree and veterinary degree in December 2024. He will be open a private practice to generate income for the orphanage, treat the children for free, and also the farm animals. Will you please sponsor his final year?
Jackie scored the highest national test scores at the orphanage. She's very bright and has a big heart. She qualifies to go to the magnet school, but need some help. $405 annually will pay for her school fees, room and board, food, medical, and school supplies. This will prepare her for university and a job in the future, which will support the orphanage in the long run.
School fees for all of the orphans to attend public school
Edna is very smart with all A's and was #1 in her class. She was the only student in 10 years at that village high school to qualify for university! She graduated high school but needs to pay a fee to get her certificate. Will you help her?

These are used every day in cooking local Kenyan meals. Ugali, a maize flour porridge, is a daily staple that is eaten with kale, tomatoes and onions from the farm. (monthly cost)
The cow and hens provide milk and eggs for the children, which is very nutritious. 4 large sacks of mash. (monthly cost)

Maize (corn) is the #1 staple food in Kenya. They have ugali with most meals, which is like grits but firmer. It's tasty when eaten with kale, tomatoes and onions from their farm! This buys 50 huge bags of dried corn kernels at a big discounted "pre harvest" rate. Plus the nice farmer throws in 10 bags of rotten corn to feed the hens for a year For free! It's a great deal we can't afford to miss each year.
(56 kids @$10 per pair). Children have only one pair and they get worn hard every day.

Sometimes a child has an accident or infection that needs hospital care. This varies, but in the past few years we had a bad cut with loss of toe in a farming accident, a rare infection that almost led to amputation, but we took him to hospital and saved him, swollen neck for Jacky, and Fred was hit by a car which almost killed him, but the hospital saved his life. (annual estimate)
Malaria is very common in Africa. Mosquito nets protect the children while they sleep. This would buy 38 nets, which is the current need.
Buy some goats!

Maintenance, repairs, and tires for the truck and motorcycle. (annual cost)
There is a steep, curved driveway entrance that gets very muddy when it rains, so cars cannot drive up. They have to leave their car on the main road and have someone sleep in the car overnight, so it doesn't get stolen. Fixing the road by adding stones and drainage will give them proper access.
Our goal is to make the orphanage self-sustainable in the future.
We are completing the project to create a doctor office for Newton, so he can generate income for the orphanage and provide free medical care to the children. This property also has 8 rooms to be rented out for additional income.
All we need is iron sheets, cement, windows, painting and wiring and the project will be completed.
PLEASE HELP US PUSH THIS OVER THE GOAL LINE!

Excerpt:
"So, the way it works: You’re allowed to make your gift directly from your IRA, a direct transfer from your IRA to a designated charity. And normally, when you take money out of your IRA, that’s taxable, but this is not. So, you’re getting money out of your IRA essentially at 0% tax rates. So, you’re getting and reducing your AGI from what it would have been if that IRA distribution was included in income, and you’re still fulfilling your charitable goals. That’s why the IRAs are the best assets to give to charity. No question about it."
